What is Cavity Wall Insulation?
The external walls of homes built after the 1920's are made of two layers of bricks with an air gap or 'cavity' between them. If this gap is unfilled a good percentage of your heat will be lost to the outside. The government wants to take action to reduce this loss in order to reduce energy production and make us greener.
How does cavity wall insulation work?
When the gap between the two walls of your house is filled with insulating material the amount of heat which escapes is reduced significantly.
Your home will heat up more quickly and will use less energy to maintain a comfortable temperature.
Condensation will be reduced on walls and ceilings which will preserve your decorations and there will be a reduction in noise transmission from outside.
How do I tell if my walls are suitable?
If the bricks in your walls look like the picture then you have a cavity wall suitable for insulation.
If you can see 'half bricks' then you have a 9" wall which is not suitable.
If your home was constructed after 1920 you probably have cavity walls.
Cavity Wall Insulation Saves Money!
About 35% of the heat lost in your home escapes through
your walls. That's lost money!
